On the 10th, the Daejeon City Council held its first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting of the year in the council’s communications room to discuss measures for strengthening councilors’ legislative and policy-making capacities, including the use of artificial intelligence.
Twelve advisory committee members attended, including Council Chair Cho Won-hwi and Committee Chair Jung Gyo-sun. Attendees urged the adoption of policies to improve AI proficiency and the creation of a dedicated AI policy unit within the council.
Cho said, "To keep pace with the sweeping AI-driven transformation, we must cultivate councilors’ legislative competencies to respond to these changes." He added, "Strengthening councilors’ capabilities is vital because their work directly influences regional development and citizens’ well-being. Enhancing those skills in line with current trends is therefore essential."
The Innovation Advisory Committee is an advisory body reporting directly to the council chair. Cho established the committee in July 2024 after assuming the chairmanship for the latter half of the 9th council term to bolster the council’s standing and capabilities.
