(The CEN News / Reporter Min Chan-hong) Yonhap reported that on March 13 Foreign Minister Cho Hyun spoke by phone with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to discuss recent developments in the Middle East.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Cho asked the Saudi government during the call for its support in maintaining stable oil supplies.

Faisal told Cho that recent attacks attributed to Iran had damaged civilian sites in Saudi Arabia as well as oilfields, refineries and other energy infrastructure. He requested South Korea’s attention and support, noting that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states have suffered particularly severe losses.

Cho expressed deep concern, offered condolences, and affirmed solidarity with the affected civilians and Gulf states over the damage to civilian and energy facilities. He also thanked the Saudi government for its cooperation in facilitating the safe return of South Korean nationals.

About 2,700 South Koreans are currently residing in Saudi Arabia.
