On the 7th, Pyeongtaek mayoral candidate Choi Won-yong issued a statement concerning a recent controversy over an opponent’s alleged dissemination of false information and a related election-law complaint, reiterating that compliance with election law is a candidate’s highest duty and a core principle of a winning campaign.

Choi expressed deep concern that an announcement by a Democratic Party candidate claiming endorsements from sports and childcare organizations provoked strong backlash from those groups, which said the endorsements were not official. The dispute subsequently escalated into a police complaint accusing a violation of the Public Official Election Act for allegedly publishing false information.

He pointed out that the Pyeongtaek City Daycare Association publicly emphasized its commitment to the political neutrality required of childcare workers and clarified that any individual expressions of support did not represent the organization’s official position. Choi said that, before seeking endorsements, candidates must respect an organization’s reputation and follow proper legal procedures.

Choi warned that invoking an organization’s name without permission or distorting facts to rally votes is a serious breach of electoral fairness. Such tactics mislead voters, he said, and only honest candidates who abide by the law and democratic principles deserve to be entrusted with Pyeongtaek’s future.

Since the start of his campaign, Choi has made fair elections his guiding principle. He said he will treat the controversies in this primary as a lesson and proceed with an even stricter commitment to legal compliance.

Choi said, \"Throughout this campaign I have placed strict compliance with election law above all else.\" He added, \"Some may push the boundaries of the law in the name of flexibility, but I will demonstrate in this primary that the straight path—adherence to law and principle—leads to victory.\"

On the evening of the 6th, at 6 p.m., Choi convened a meeting with the Pyeongtaek City Daycare Association to hear frontline concerns and seek practical solutions as part of his policy agenda.

About 50 members, led by Chair Lee Eun-sook, attended and showed strong interest. Prior to the event, the association reiterated that recent reports suggesting it endorsed a particular candidate did not reflect the group’s official position. Choi expressed agreement and engaged in detailed discussions on concrete policy issues affecting childcare providers.

Based on input from those on the ground, Choi pledged to expand wage support for cooks at private and home-based daycare centers; extend childcare subsidies for children of foreign residents to reduce care gaps; replace aging CCTV systems to improve infant and toddler safety; and reform apartment-complex daycare policy to focus on operations and management rather than merely equipment installation.

Choi emphasized that what is needed is not simply more facilities but a policy shift that improves operational equity and raises the quality of care. He vowed to carry the sincere voices from the field into policy and to make Pyeongtaek a city where families can confidently raise their children.
