Lee Gae-ho, a Democratic Party lawmaker who withdrew from the Jeonnam–Gwangju integrated special mayor primary midrace, visited Kim Young-rok to encourage him and offer his support.
On the afternoon of the 1st, Rep. Lee visited Kim’s campaign office and said, “As the Democratic Party’s regional chair, I can’t officially endorse a specific candidate, but I want Kim to succeed more than anyone. I urge him to stay strong.”
He emphasized their connection, noting parallel career paths: both passed the civil service exam, worked in the Jeonnam provincial administration, served as vice governors, and later entered politics.
He also recalled that, during former Gov. Heo Kyung-man’s administration, he and Kim each served as chief of staff in succession and said, “I learned a great deal.”
Kim Young-rok thanked him for coming in person and offering active support, replying, “I appreciate your visit and encouragement. Given our similar paths, we will join forces and work together.”
The visit included former Gov. Heo Kyung-man and former Jeonnam vice governors Na Seung-po, Son Ki-jung, and Cho Bo-hoon, who accompanied him and expressed their support for Kim.
Earlier, the four-term Rep. Lee announced he would boycott the Jeonnam–Gwangju integrated special mayor primary in protest of the primary rules.
