South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun spoke by phone on April 2 with Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi to discuss South Korea–Japan relations and developments in the Middle East.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the ministers held a 20-minute call that began at 5:30 p.m. on April 2, during which they exchanged views on the recent situation in the region.
The two ministers agreed that ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is vital to both countries’ security and economic interests, and they committed to maintain close communication and cooperation on the issue.
They also welcomed the successful South Korea–Japan summit held last January in Nara and said they would continue shuttle diplomacy—grounded in strong trust and ties between their leaders—to advance a forward-looking bilateral relationship.
