Moztaba Khamenei, Iran’s new supreme leader who has remained out of public view, expressed gratitude to Iraq in a written statement.
On March 29 (local time), Iran’s state-run ISNA reported that Khamenei said, “I thank Iraq’s religious leaders and the Iraqi people for opposing aggression against Iran and for supporting our country.”
ISNA said the message followed a meeting between the Shia political party, the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, and Iran’s ambassador in Baghdad.
He succeeded his father, Ali Khamenei, after U.S. and Israeli airstrikes killed him, but he has not yet made any public appearances or released any audio of his voice.
