[iNews24 reporter La Chang-hyun] The Democratic Party of Korea has narrowed its field to three candidates for Seoul mayor in the June 3 local elections.

Hong Ki-won, vice chair of the party’s Central Election Committee, announced at the party headquarters in Yeouido on the 24th that Park Joo-min, Jeong Won-oh and Jeon Hyun-hee—listed in ballot order—will advance to the final primary. Candidates Kim Hyung-nam and Kim Young-bae did not advance.

The preliminary primary was conducted entirely online as a 100% registered-members vote and ran from the previous day through 6 p.m. on the 24th. Eligible Seoul party members—those who had paid party dues at least six times in the past 12 months—participated to determine the final-round contenders.

The final primary to select the party’s nominee is scheduled for April 7–9. If no candidate secures a majority, a runoff between the top two vote-getters will be held April 17–19.
