The People Power Party’s central candidate-selection committee said on March 12 that Governor Kim Tae-heum of South Chungcheong Province and one unnamed individual have registered as primary candidates for the Chungnam governorship and the Seoul mayoral race, respectively.
The committee reopened registration on March 11 and 12 after Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Governor Kim missed the original March 8 application deadline.
Mayor Oh told reporters he is withholding his application. He said he will only register after the party makes an early transition to a reformed campaign committee structure and takes steps to address far-right figures within the party.
He also requested an extension of the candidate registration deadline.
The committee said that, having received the paperwork, it will hold interviews on March 13 to promptly assess each candidate’s qualifications and competitiveness.
