The Democratic Party of Korea’s Gyeonggi Provincial Public Office Candidate Recommendation Management Committee (the Nominating Committee) announced the results of its screening for metropolitan and municipal council candidates. The committee issued uncontested nominations to 20 metropolitan council candidates, including six incumbents, securing their places on the ballot.
In its 12th announcement on April 24, the committee said it confirmed uncontested nominations in 20 constituencies. Notably, Goyang accounted for as many as 10 of those nominees, including incumbent Go Eun-jung (Goyang 10): Im Yu-jin (Goyang 1), Ryu Ki-jun (Goyang 3), Choi Kyu-jin (Goyang 4), Jeong Yeon-il (Goyang 5), Song Gyu-geun (Goyang 6), Kim Hae-ryeon (Goyang 7), Lee Seong-han (Goyang 8), Kim Un-nam (Goyang 11), and Lee Yun-seung (Goyang 12).
Incumbents Choi Man-sik (Seongnam 2), Choi Min (Gwangmyeong 2), Ahn Gwang-ryul (Siheung 1), Shin Mi-suk (Hwaseong 4), and Kim Tae-hyung (Hwaseong 5) also received uncontested nominations. Candidates Myeong Seong-suk (Bucheon 4), Shim Sang-rok (Gwangmyeong 1), Son Seong-ik (Paju 3), Lee Jong-chun (Paju 5), and Kim Young-hoon (Hwaseong 3) likewise secured single-candidate endorsements and will now focus on voter outreach and campaigning.
The party narrowed metropolitan council primary contests to 10 districts. Two-candidate primaries will be held in Bucheon 3 — which includes incumbent Lee Jae-young — as well as Gwangmyeong 4 (incumbent Kim Yong-seong), Goyang 2 (incumbent Byun Jae-seok), Goyang 9, Paju 1, Paju 2, Paju 4, and Anseong 1.
Additionally, Gwangmyeong 3 (Kang Ju-young, Seo Du-won, incumbent Yoo Jong-sang) and Siheung 4 (incumbent Kim Jong-bae, Lee Jung-sook, incumbent Jang Dae-seok) will each hold three-way primaries to determine who advances to the general election.
The committee also released partial results for municipal council races. In the Suwon-ja district, Yoon Il-young was assigned ballot slot 'A' and Lee Seon-woo slot 'B'. Several districts — including Suwon-a, Suwon-cha, and Gimpo-da — will hold two-candidate primaries to decide the 'A' nomination. Gwangmyeong-ra will stage a three-way primary among Kim Hang-rim, Park Tae-young, and Jeong Jung-han, with the top finisher taking the 'A' slot.
