South Korea's Democratic Party candidates Noh Young-min and Shin Yong-han will face off in a head-to-head runoff to determine the party's nominee for governor of North Chungcheong Province in the June 3 local elections.

Lee Ju-hee, a member of the party's election management committee, said no candidate secured a majority in the primary held March 25–27. As a result, the party will stage a runoff between the top two vote‑getters, Noh and Shin. Song Ki-seop and Han Beom-deok, who also competed in the primary, failed to finish in the top two and were eliminated.

Under party rules, officials did not disclose the candidates' rankings or vote shares. The runoff to select the final nominee is scheduled for April 2–4.

Noh is a three-term lawmaker who served as chief of staff to former President Moon Jae-in. Shin, a businessman, served as vice chair of President Lee Jae-myung's presidential Local Era Committee.

The primary combined 30% party-member voting and 70% nationwide opinion polling over the three days beginning March 25.
