[SPOTV News reporter Kim Won‑gyeom] Gugak performer Lee Yoon‑ah visited Daeri Elementary School in Imsil on April 24 to host a "Traveling Music Classroom."
A long‑time advocate for making gugak more accessible, Lee said she organized the class because she believes "true popularization begins with children." About 40 students participated, attentively learning Arirang and turning the lesson into a memorable experience.
She closed the session with a performance of Arirang, which the students met with warm applause and cheers.
Principal Gu Hong‑mo expressed his gratitude and said he hopes the school can welcome a similar program again this fall.
Lee reflected, "Teaching while looking into the students' eyes fills me with pride and, at the same time, a deep sense of responsibility as a gugak artist." She added, "Ultimately, the most precious gift we can give children is our own—our sound."
The class mattered because it did more than offer a simple, hands‑on experience: it gave children a natural introduction to traditional Korean music. Observers now wonder whether the Arirang that echoed in that small classroom will find its way to larger stages.
