Mercedes‑Benz has unveiled the cabin for the new EQS, with the headline feature being a half‑spoke steering wheel — commonly referred to as a yoke.

The steering wheel’s top and bottom are scalloped to make ingress and egress easier and to open sightlines. Mercedes‑Benz says the airbag module has been reengineered to fit the new geometry.

This is more than a styling tweak. Mercedes redesigned the cabin around user experience, reinforcing the EQS’s futuristic electric‑vehicle character.

Steer‑by‑Wire Implemented

Driving Comfort Improved

The new EQS employs steer‑by‑wire, replacing the mechanical steering column with an electronic control system.

That decoupling reduces road shock transmitted to the wheel and allows drivers to achieve larger steering angles with smaller inputs.

Mercedes says the steering system uses a dual‑signal architecture and has completed a 1 million km durability program, underlining its claims of safety and reliability.

The company says drivers should see reduced fatigue and improved controllability as a result.

MB.OS Gets an Update

Infotainment Streamlined

The EQS debuts an updated MB.OS infotainment suite with a redesigned user interface.

The update aims to enhance the in‑car digital experience and make the interface more intuitive for drivers and passengers.

By strengthening its software capabilities, Mercedes aims to raise the EQS’s refinement and competitiveness as a premium electric vehicle.

China Market Variables Remain

The new EQS is built on an 800‑volt electrical architecture and incorporates Mercedes’ latest eATS 2.0 drive system.

The package includes radial motors and a two‑speed gearbox, which Mercedes says should improve both range and efficiency.

That said, the Chinese market introduces uncertainty: local regulators may restrict half‑steering wheels, so Mercedes could need to modify the design for a local launch.

Tesla briefly experimented with a yoke and later reverted to conventional steering wheels on some models, so industry watchers will be watching how Mercedes is received with the same concept.
