According to state-run Press TV, an Iranian military spokesman said, “We successfully carried out a retaliatory strike targeting Ben Gurion Airport.”
Ben Gurion has been used for takeoffs and landings by U.S. aerial refueling tankers since U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran began.
The spokesman described Ben Gurion as “a base for attacks on Iran” and called it “the economic artery of the Zionists, where more than 90% of trade takes place.”
He said most of the drones used in the strike were Arash-2s, which he claimed are more destructive than earlier models such as the Arash-1, and stressed that Arash-2s can be produced rapidly and launched at short notice.
Iran’s military has said the Arash-2 has a range of about 2,000 km (roughly 1,243 miles), enabling long-endurance, low-cost flights and precision strikes across all of Israel.
Tehran previously said it developed the drone to strike Tel Aviv and Haifa, and reports indicate the same model was used in the March 5 attack on Nakhchivan Airport in Azerbaijan.
