National Security Office Director Wi Seong-rak said that, despite a temporary cease-fire agreement between the United States and Iran, transit through the Strait of Hormuz is still not proceeding smoothly.

At a press briefing at the Blue House on April 10, Wi said supply-chain uncertainty is likely to persist in the near term. He added that the government will continue efforts to secure alternative sources of crude oil and naphtha.

He noted that the number of vessels transiting the strait does not appear to have increased significantly compared with wartime levels. Few ships are attempting immediate passage; most are holding off and monitoring conditions before deciding to move.

On prospects for a formal end to hostilities, Wi said the two sides remain far apart on the terms of a cease-fire, and it remains unclear whether an agreement can be reached.
