Singer and actress Yuri (born Kwon Yuri) was one of five individual awardees.

Gangnam District maintains strict eligibility standards for the Distinguished Taxpayer award. Applicants—individuals, groups, or corporations with an address or business in Gangnam—must have no tax delinquency records over the past 10 years. They must also have consistently paid local taxes at least twice a year for eight consecutive years. Last year’s tax payments must meet minimum thresholds: at least 10,000,000 won (about $6,700) for individuals and groups, and at least 50,000,000 won (about $33,500) for corporations.

The district also factors in candidates’ contributions to local governance and community development when making final selections. Gangnam runs this commendation program annually to encourage a culture of responsible taxpaying.

Gangnam District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong thanked the honorees for faithfully meeting their tax obligations despite economic challenges, and pledged to expand benefits for taxpayers while maintaining fair, transparent tax administration to strengthen residents’ trust.
