On March 10, JYP Entertainment (JYP) announced that Park Jin-young will resign from his post as an inside director at the company.

JYP said Park will not stand for reappointment as an inside director at the shareholders' meeting scheduled for March 26.

The company said Park plans to concentrate on creative projects as an artist, mentor younger acts, and pursue new external initiatives to support the K-pop industry. By stepping away from day-to-day management, he intends to continue efforts to advance K-pop.

Born in 1971, Park is 54. Since his debut in 1994, he has built a career as a singer, songwriter and producer, releasing numerous hits and earning a reputation as a legend in Korean pop. He produced artists including Rain, the group GOD, Wonder Girls, 2AM, 2PM, miss A, TWICE, GOT7, Stray Kids and ITZY, helping shape JYP into a leading idol label. He also released the digital single "Happy Hour" last November and continues to perform as a singer.

In September of last year, the administration of President Lee Jae-myung appointed Park, along with Culture Minister Choi Hwi-young, as civilian co-chair of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee. The committee was formed to establish a national vision for popular culture policy and to strengthen the cultural industry's competitiveness through public-private cooperation. Government ministries and private experts participate in the committee to discuss policy directions aimed at expanding the global reach of popular culture and boosting the industry's competitiveness.

At the time, Park told a TV program that he accepted the appointment because he wanted to take on work his private company couldn’t—work for K-pop and for younger artists. He added, “I’m not aligned with any political camp; I’m neither progressive nor conservative—I’m Park Jin-young.”
