[SPOTV News reporter Bae Sun-young] V of BTS said he fulfilled his father's dream.
On the 29th, the YouTube channel '요정재형' (Yeojeong Jaehyung) posted a video titled "Dad Was the One Who Didn't Make It... I Was the One Who Did," which featured V.
V recalled that he originally wanted to be a singer, but his grandmother pushed him toward acting. "She used to say, 'Singers become that kind of person, actors become that kind of person,'" he said, noting that a banner at the time featured actor Kang Dong-won. "My grandmother pointed at it and said, 'Become like that person,' and I accepted it."
He said his parents lived in Geoje while he was raised by his grandparents in Geochang — a town that almost became a city but did not. He completed elementary and middle school in Geochang before moving to Seoul for high school. "These days, I hear my face even appears on banners in Geochang," he added.
V said he did put his dream on hold for a while, but he always loved music and performing. "Back then, people would tell me I was pretty and give me pocket money when I danced — those small things made me happy. I was a veteran," he joked.
He explained that his father had wanted to be an entertainer and had aimed to be an actor. "My dad thought working at a broadcaster would be close enough, so he worked as an FD at Daegu MBC," V said — drawing laughter when he added, "My dad is an example of someone who didn't make it, and I'm the one who did."
V recalled that around the end of elementary school and the start of middle school, he told his father he wanted to pursue his dream. His father advised him to learn an instrument and apply to an arts high school. Seeing the competition, he picked the saxophone because it had a 3-to-1 applicant ratio and studied it for four years — but ultimately he didn't pass that competitive saxophone audition.
