Hyundai vs Kia: Who Dominates the European EV Market in 2026?

Hyundai Motor Co. (005380) and Kia (000270) sold 70,661 vehicles in Europe in February, a 3.6% decline from the same month a year earlier.

On March 24, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reported that Hyundai sold 33,603 units in Europe last month and Kia sold 37,058.

Year over year, Hyundai’s sales fell 9.7% while Kia’s rose 2.7%.

Hyundai’s top sellers in Europe last month were the Tucson (9,831 units), the Kona (6,284) and the i20 (4,684).

Among eco-friendly models — including hybrid vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicles (EV) — the Tucson led with 5,484 units, followed by the Kona with 5,137 and the Inster (Casper Electric) with 2,382.

Kia did not release a model-level breakdown for the same period.

Total European sales last month reached 979,321, up 1.7% year over year. Slower Hyundai and Kia sales reduced their combined market share from 7.6% to 7.2%, a 0.4 percentage-point drop, leaving the pair fourth by brand.

The Volkswagen Group led the market with a 26.2% share, followed by Stellantis at 17.4% and the Renault Group at 9.4%.

Through the first two months of the year, Hyundai and Kia’s cumulative European sales fell 8.4% year over year to 142,457 vehicles.

Over the same period, Hyundai sold 66,777 units, down 15.2%, and Kia sold 76,680, a 1.5% decline. Their combined market share in the region slipped 0.6 percentage points to 7.4%.
