President Donald Trump warned that if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the United States will strike Iranian power plants — an effective ultimatum.

Iran replied with threats of even more destructive retaliation, stoking concerns that the confrontation could escalate into full-scale war across the Middle East.

On March 22, Trump posted on social media that if Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz without threatening passage within 48 hours, the U.S. would begin by targeting Iran’s largest power plant and proceed against other major generation facilities.

Iran has demonstrated its military reach at key moments, mounting retaliatory strikes on neighboring countries’ critical energy infrastructure on the 18th and launching attacks near Israeli nuclear sites on the 21st.

The Islamic Republic also fired medium-range ballistic missiles toward Diego Garcia, the U.S.–U.K. joint military base in the Indian Ocean, signaling a sharper intent to retaliate.

While Trump sought to rule out a ground invasion, U.S. forces have been reinforcing Marine deployments across the region, a move that has only raised tension levels.

Saudi Arabia warned that any further Iranian aggression would carry grave consequences and hinted that it could respond militarily.

An Iranian military spokesman said Tehran has adopted a doctrine that goes beyond a simple "eye for an eye" and warned that if an enemy strikes a single facility, Iran will target multiple facilities in response.
