The Ministry of National Defense has launched a task force to overhaul entrenched practices, regulations and systems and drive change.

On April 27, the ministry opened the Task Force to Normalize the Defense Sector to boost operational efficiency and deliver tangible improvements that the public can feel. The TF has now begun full operations.

The task force will comprehensively review long-standing unfair practices and outdated rules that no longer align with current needs. Vice Minister Lee Doo-hee will chair the task force, which the ministry has structured as a civil‑military joint body.

To gather input, the ministry opened a "Ministry of National Defense Public Suggestion Center" on its official website so anyone can submit defense-related complaints or policy ideas. To protect service members concerned about exposing their identities, anonymous submissions are allowed. Officials also plan to collect feedback on supply issues, streamlined administrative procedures and barracks culture through the military-only platform Jangbyeong-eum.

The ministry says it will not stop at reviewing identified problems. Issues will be categorized into short-, medium- and long-term tasks, with concrete implementation road maps developed for each.

Vice Minister Lee said, "This task force is not simply about identifying problems. Its purpose is to create changes that both the public and service members can feel. We will listen to voices inside the military, reform abnormal practices and systems, and build a modernized defense environment."
