Iran has partially reopened the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz and is permitting limited transits.

Tasnim News reported April 4 (local time) that Tehran has authorized ships carrying essential supplies destined for Iranian ports to pass through the strait.

A document obtained by Tasnim directs vessels bound for Iranian ports — including those currently in the Gulf of Oman — to coordinate with Iranian authorities and follow the Strait of Hormuz transit protocol.

The April 1 letter says that, following an agreement and announcement by Iran’s government and its military, authorities will allow ships carrying humanitarian cargo — notably food staples and animal feed — to transit the waterway.

Until recently, Iran had effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz for more than a month in the wake of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.
