[Herald Economy=Reporter Kim Seon-guk] South Korean officials confirmed that one South Korean seafarer disembarked from a vessel anchored in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively blockaded amid escalating hostilities between the U.S. and Iran.South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on April 26 that, as of 6 p.m. on April 25, one crew member had left a South Korean-flagged vessel located inside the strait.
The departure reduces the number of South Korean crew aboard ships positioned toward the Persian Gulf by one, to 125. Including 37 South Korean sailors on foreign-flagged vessels, the total number of South Koreans remaining in the area is now 162.
The ministry said it cannot disclose the crew member’s return route or schedule, citing privacy and safety concerns.
The government is closely monitoring the situation and prioritizing measures to ensure the safety of vessels and seafarers in the area.
