On May 4, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu‑baek visited a unit under the Capital Defense Command responsible for outer security of the Blue House. He inspected the unit’s operational posture and facilities and offered direct encouragement to the troops. At the operations command-and-control center, Minister Ahn received operational updates from subordinate commanders both in person and via video teleconference (VTC). He stressed the need for rigorous, flawless execution of assigned missions.
He described the unit as “the strategic frontline” and urged personnel to establish an impeccable operational stance on the ground so the public can have confidence in their security.
Following the briefings, Minister Ahn conducted a foot inspection of key security and guard facilities, speaking directly with on-site operators and boosting their morale. He also visited air defense positions and pressed for an unbroken, gap-free air defense posture.
“The foundation of air defense readiness is strict adherence to basic discipline and established principles,” he said, warning that complacency — the notion that ‘nothing has gone wrong so far’ — can become a critical vulnerability. He called for a culture that carries out every procedure by the book.
He also underscored the rising threat posed by unmanned aerial systems and drones, noting that as surveillance and strike assets become more advanced and precise, the responsibility and sense of mission of the personnel who operate them must increase accordingly.
