CJ ENM at 11.092% Narrows Gap with MBC, SBS; Pay-TV Channels Increase Influence
In the 2024 audience-share calculations for major domestic broadcasters, KBS (20.862%) held the top spot among terrestrial networks. CJ ENM (11.092%) closed in on MBC and SBS, highlighting the growing influence of pay-TV channels.
On the 20th, the Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission convened its third plenary meeting of 2026 and released the 2024 audience-share results for 166 broadcasters operating 285 channels with annual viewing records.
Audience share represents the portion of total television viewing time attributed to a specific channel. The commission calculates it by combining the broadcaster’s own share, the shares of related parties, and a converted share based on daily newspaper subscription rates.
For terrestrial broadcasters, the survey found Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) at 20.862%, Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) at 10.978%, SBS at 7.550%, and Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) at 1.859%.
Among general-programming channel operators (comprehensive PP) and news-specialist channel operators (news PP), shares were: Chosun Broadcasting Co. 7.441%, JTBC Co. 6.145%, Channel A Co. 4.877%, Maeil Broadcasting Co. 4.754%, YTN Co. 3.459%, and Yonhap News TV Co. 3.285%.
Among major channel operators and satellite broadcasters, CJ ENM Co. posted 11.092% and KT Skylife Co. 3.687%.
The media-exchange rate, which measures the relative influence of television versus daily newspapers, stood at 0.48 for 2024. The rate expresses the value of a daily newspaper relative to television, with television set at 1.
