The Changwon City Rural Revitalization Support Center announced on May 7 that it will offer a chrysanthemum-bonsai course for 20 Changwon residents running from May 7 through Oct. 30. The program is part of a municipal capacity-building initiative aimed at expanding cultural and leisure opportunities and strengthening community life.
The 10-session series is intended to be more than a hobby. Organizers say it will support residents’ emotional well-being and improve quality of life. Exhibitions tied to local festivals and village events are expected to help broaden interest in chrysanthemum bonsai throughout Changwon.
The curriculum covers understanding chrysanthemum bonsai and techniques such as curve training and the basic principles of form; guiding the first branch and hands-on shaping practice; producing rooted cuttings and managing bloom timing; and completing the canopy and preparing specimens for exhibition.
Lee Hee-il, acting director of the center, said, “We hope the chrysanthemum-bonsai training will offer emotional relief and help revitalize community activity. We will continue to expand participatory programs that reflect the character of our region.”
