Seo‑gu District in Incheon announced on May 6 that it is expanding residents’ access to books through its 'Anywhere Library' program.
The 'Anywhere Library,' run by the Incheon Seo‑gu Public Library, sets up pop‑up outdoor reading spaces at local festivals. The program brings a book selection comparable to indoor branches, comfortable seating and hands‑on literacy activities to community events.
At the recent 'Children as Protagonists: Happy Festival' at Incheon Asiad Stadium, officials stocked roughly 500 children's titles and provided tents and beanbags so young visitors could read comfortably. A key‑ring workshop let children create keepsakes inspired by the stories they read.
About 4,000 people, mainly children and their families, visited the 'Anywhere Library' that day. In a follow‑up survey, 90% of respondents said they were satisfied and 97% said they wanted the program to return.
Officials said they will continue the 'Anywhere Library' based on resident feedback, with upcoming appearances scheduled for the Incheon Environment Corporation’s 'Eco‑Environment Experience Event' in June and the Seo‑gu Cultural Foundation’s 'Jeongseojin Picnic Classic' in September.
“We will tailor book selections and activities to each festival’s theme to improve access to reading and spark interest,” a district official said.
