Running since 2024, the program is designed to deepen students’ and their families’ understanding of Yeongwol and to improve residents’ satisfaction with living in the town.

Officials say the initiative also seeks to broaden exchanges between homestay families and long-time residents, fostering a more inclusive local community.

Kicking off with a community tour one week before the Danjong Cultural Festival (April 24–26), the program will expand into a variety of activities — including school sports days, woodworking workshops, original musical-theater classes and whole-village schools — aimed at bringing students, parents and residents together.

서곡마을 영월 During the community tour, students and parents from Okdong Elementary visited Yeongwol’s signature historical and cultural sites — Cheongnyeongpo, Seondol and Jangneung — to deepen their understanding of the area.

A foundation representative said, “This program goes beyond simple activities; it creates meaningful opportunities for homestay families and local residents to interact naturally. We will continue to offer programs that increase satisfaction for those settling in Yeongwol and that help migrant families establish stable roots.”
