[The Public=Lee Jung-do ] Amouage, the Omani perfumery house, has opened a pop-up boutique called The Sand That Moves In in Seoul’s Seongsu neighborhood. The space was created to embody the brand’s philosophy of speaking through a distinct architectural language in each city.

The pop-up merges Omani heritage with contemporary design, turning the brand’s identity into a tactile, immersive environment. The concept links Amouage’s origins with the site’s character to form a cohesive narrative.

Design inspiration came from Abu Fasiqa, an ancient Omani village once swallowed by sandstorms and later partially revealed over time. The installation symbolically captures nature’s cycles of concealing and revealing, using sand as a recurring motif throughout the space.

At the heart of the boutique, creative studio Karim + Elias installed spherical forms that amplify the look of sand grains. These sculptural pieces scatter and gather across the interior to create a sense of movement. They were crafted with the traditional rammed earth technique—layering and compressing soil, clay and water—and incorporate varied sand densities and particle sizes to achieve both texture and structural integrity.

The designers also included a pyramid-shaped sculpture that nods to an hourglass, expressing the passage and accumulation of time, while spherical screen structures divide the space without interrupting natural sightlines or flow.

On the exterior, the Amouage emblem is set between layers of sand to highlight fine detail. Inside, sand structures, mineral-toned walls and arched displays play off built form and erosion, and sand-shaped elements that evoke the passage of time appear throughout the venue.

This Seongsu pop-up follows the brand’s Dosan boutique and represents Amouage’s second physical space in Seoul, part of a broader effort to deepen its presence in the city.

Once known for handmade shoemaking workshops and industrial yards, Seongsu has evolved into a neighborhood where fashion, beauty and art intersect. In that context, Amouage reinterprets Omani craftsmanship and aesthetics in a fresh, contemporary way.

The Amouage Seongsu pop-up is located near Yeonmujang-gil in Seoul’s Seongdong District and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
