Gmarket is staging a lodging discount aimed at spring domestic travel, sharpening its presence as a distribution channel for travel deals.

Instead of spotlighting individual properties, it aggregates listings from multiple online travel agencies (OTAs) like Yanolja and Yeogi-eottae, and layers government-backed coupons with its own discounts and credit-card promotions to boost price competitiveness.

Gmarket said it will run the Korea Lodging Sale Festa: Spring Edition through April 30. The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, marks Gmarket’s seventh consecutive year of participation. It will showcase about 50,000 lodging options from 11 travel agencies in one place.

The event centers on price perks. Every day at 10 a.m. it issues a government-backed 30,000 KRW (about $22.50) discount coupon for lodging in non-metropolitan areas on a first-come, first-served basis. Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon and Sejong are excluded.

On purchases of 150,000 KRW or more (about $112.50), shoppers can stack an extra 10,000 KRW discount (about $7.50) and add a 7% card discount capped at 40,000 KRW (about $30.00). The lodging coupon is limited to one per person, and the promotion ends early once supplies run out.

Notably, Gmarket is leaning into its role as an aggregator rather than a seller of individual rooms. By making government coupons the baseline and displaying OTA and agency offers on a single page, it broadens consumer choice while boosting price appeal.

The trend suggests that in lodging sales, a platform's ability to attract customers and combine discounts is becoming as important as competition among individual operators.

Gmarket grouped offerings by demand. In the MD Pick Deals section it highlights Kolon Hotel Gyeongju, Saint Johns, and Lotte Resort Buyeo; the Limited Deals section features Yeosu Utop Marina, Lahan Hotel Jeonju, and Skybay Gyeongpo Hotel. The Bestsellers section, based on customer purchase data, includes Hilton Gyeongju, Jeongdongjin Sun Cruise, and The Bon Hotel Jeju.

It also created themed collections—properties with pools, pet-friendly stays, and family-friendly guesthouses geared toward kids. Customers who purchase lodging can get an additional 10% off nationwide car rentals. For details, search "Lodging Sale" on Gmarket; items marked with the "Lodging Sale" sticker in the product title qualify for the discount.

A Gmarket representative said, "We coordinated with government agencies to prepare meaningful discounts timed to the spring travel season. Travelers can book a wide range of accommodations—from bestsellers and poolside stays to family-friendly guesthouses—at reasonable prices."
