A man who waited outside a woman’s home armed with a weapon, threatened her and attempted to sexually assault her has been arrested by police.
Police said on the 24th that Gangdong Police Station in Seoul arrested a man in his 30s identified as A on the 23rd on suspicion of attempted aggravated rape, trespassing, and violating the Anti-Stalking Act. He is under investigation.
Police say A threatened and assaulted a woman identified as B with a weapon at about 11 a.m. the previous day in a multiunit residence in Gangdong District. He then allegedly attempted to rape her as she stepped into the hallway.
Officers responded to a resident’s report that “a man was hitting a woman in the hallway” and arrested A at the scene. They later found evidence that A had waited in front of B’s home for several hours before the assault and added a stalking charge.
Police said A had no prior reports of stalking B. B sustained physical injuries and reported psychological distress; she is receiving treatment at a hospital.
Authorities are investigating the motive and are considering applying Provisional Measure No. 4 — which permits holding a suspect in a detention cell for up to one month — and seeking an arrest warrant.
