Union Issues \"Fight Directive No. 1\" — Will Mobilize on Chair’s Orders
In response to a recent member's death, the Cargo Solidarity branch of the KCTU Public Transport Workers' Union held a large rally on the 25th and declared an all-out campaign. The union staged the rally in front of the CU Jinju logistics center in Jeongchon-myeon, Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province. Organizers estimated about 9,000 members attended. Demonstrators demanded that the deceased worker’s honor be restored and called on BGF Logis, the logistics subsidiary of CU convenience stores, to accept responsibility.
At the event, the union formally announced \"Fight Directive No. 1,\" which lays out its tactical plan going forward. Under the directive, local branch executive committees nationwide will be reconstituted as regional struggle headquarters. All members were ordered to enter emergency action status, signaled by wearing protest vests and black mourning ribbons.
In particular, the union said that once the chair issues an order, all members will stop work at their sites and assemble for an emergency general meeting of Cargo Solidarity. Observers said the move reflects the potential to escalate into a full-scale campaign depending on the outcome of negotiations.
A union official said, \"We engrave in our hearts the extraordinary resolve that any one of us could be the next deceased member. The blood shed by that comrade has become the anger of 450,000 cargo workers, and the comrade's final cry has become the marching song we sing together.\" The official also alleged that the company filed for an injunction to prohibit obstruction of work on the day the member died and is now denying and backtracking on the hard-won negotiations.
The deceased member’s family attended the rally. The family said, \"Seeing all of you here gives us strength. Let's fight together so that your wishes are carried through to the end.\"
As tensions rose at the scene, police significantly reinforced their presence, deploying about 1,580 officers to prepare for any contingencies. A police official said, \"Given the memorial atmosphere, we do not expect major physical clashes, but with such a large crowd gathered we are taking every precaution to prevent unforeseen incidents.\"
