The Public — Reporter Oh Hong-ji: Jeungpyeong County will administratively assign detailed addresses to 16 multi-family buildings that contain a large number of units.
The measure aims to eliminate blind spots in the street-address system and improve residents’ convenience and safety.
A detailed address refers to the building section, floor, and unit information appended to a street-address building number; it serves as the legal address used in administrative processes such as resident registration.
Unlike apartment complexes, multi-family houses often lack clearly defined unit divisions. Unless residents register detailed addresses or the local government assigns them, section/floor/unit information is not legally recognized as an official address.
As a result, homes without detailed addresses can experience delayed or misdelivered mail and packages. The lack of precise unit-level location data can also make it difficult for emergency services—fire, police, and medical responders—to find the correct unit quickly.
The county expects the program to accurately map each unit’s location, improve the address system’s accuracy, reduce residents’ inconveniences, and strengthen disaster and public-safety response capabilities.
A county official said, "Assigning detailed addresses is an important administrative service that enhances residents' convenience and safety. We will continue to identify and remediate blind spots in the address system."
