The Jeollanam-do Office of Education has formally launched an ESG (environmental, social, and governance) Education Development Committee to strengthen ESG-oriented educational administration.
On the 27th, the office convened the committee's regular meeting in the situation room to share implementation progress and discuss ways to refine related policies.
The office has integrated ESG principles across its operations—adopting eco-friendly practices, expanding educational welfare programs, and establishing transparent decision-making processes—to build a sustainable education administration system. In 2023, it led administrative innovation by becoming the first in the country to enact the "Jeollanam-do Office of Education ESG Education and Practice Ordinance."
Those efforts have earned external recognition: the Jeollanam-do Office of Education received the Korea ESG Innovation Award two years in a row.
Looking ahead, the office said it will strengthen the committee's advisory role in its second term, expand partnerships that connect field operations with policymaking, and increase the execution of ESG-based education policies.
It also plans to incorporate input from experts across multiple disciplines to develop concrete strategies for the sustainable development of education in Jeollanam-do and to prioritize policy outcomes that residents can directly experience.
Committee Chair Ko Seok-gyu said, "Through the committee, we will raise policy standards and reinforce a sustainable foundation for educational administration."
Superintendent Kim Dae-jung said, "By embedding ESG values across our administration, we are building a more accountable and trusted education system. Together with the committee, we will more firmly shape the future of education in Jeollanam-do."
