At about 10:10 a.m., a dump truck struck A, an 80-year-old man, as he rode his bicycle on the road in front of Gwangmyeong Market. He was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest and later died.
Gwangmyeong police said A began crossing the crosswalk just as the pedestrian signal was ending. B, a truck driver in his 50s who was in the first lane, did not see him and moved forward, causing the collision.
Police said B did not run a traffic signal. However, because the crash resulted in a fatality, they have booked B on suspicion of professional negligence causing death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Handling of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the circumstances.
