[iNews24 Reporter Lim Jung-gyu] On the 9th, the Pyeongtaek City Council attended the 107th anniversary ceremony of the Pyeongtaek March 1st Independence Movement at the Pyeongtaek March 1st Movement Memorial Plaza to honor the sacrifices of Pyeongtaek's independence activists.
Some 300 people attended the ceremony, including Council Chair Kang Jeong-gu, city council members, the head of the Pyeongtaek Cultural Center, members of the Seonyang Association, representatives of bereaved families, the president of the Liberation Association, and local residents.
The program began with pre-ceremony events—a street drumming parade and an orchestral performance—followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a March 1st Movement musical, the singing of the March 1st Day song, and a reenactment of the Pyeongtaek March 1st independence march.
Chairman Kang said, \"Today is a meaningful day. The independence movement began in Hyeondeok-myeon—the first in southern Gyeonggi—and then spread across Pyeongtaek, growing into the largest independence movement in Gyeonggi Province. We will keep the cries for independence that rang out in Pyeongtaek 107 years ago close to our hearts, and we will work to ensure that our forebears' patriotic devotion is properly passed down to future generations.\"
