Prime Minister to Chair Newly Launched 'UN AI Hub Hosting Committee'

On March 10, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok chaired a UN AI Hub Hosting Support task force meeting at the Government Complex Seoul and said that, to elevate South Korea into the top three global AI powers and to lead international AI cooperation, the government will advance efforts to host the UN AI Hub. To that end, the administration has established the UN AI Hub Hosting Committee, chaired by the prime minister, and has launched active campaign efforts to secure the hub.
The UN AI Hub is a plan to create a global AI cooperation platform that consolidates AI-related functions and entities from UN specialized agencies to work jointly with the South Korean government and the private sector. If the hub is hosted here, sharing AI infrastructure and pursuing joint projects could help address global challenges such as climate change, public health, and development.
Prime Minister Kim stressed, \"South Korea has grown amid international expectations and trust in K-democracy. With advances in AI technology, we have a responsibility to establish AI ethics, expand AI democracy, and lead global AI cooperation.\"
Through the UN AI Hub Hosting Committee, the government will review hosting strategy and implementation plans with relevant ministries. This week, Prime Minister Kim plans to visit the United States and Switzerland to meet with leaders of UN-related organizations and discuss cooperation on hosting the AI hub.
Prime Minister Kim said, \"By hosting the UN AI Hub, South Korea can contribute to solving the many challenges facing humanity and emerge as a leader in global AI cooperation.\" He urged the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant ministries to prepare thoroughly.
