Trump‘s Ultimatum: Will Iran’s Power Plants Face Destruction Over Negotiation Failures?

Daniel Kim | 2026.03.30

U.S. President Donald Trump warned that if negotiations to formally end hostilities with Iran collapse, he would order strikes to destroy Iran’s power plants, Kharg Island and other infrastructure.

On March 30, local time, Trump posted on social media: "If for any reason we do not reach an agreement soon and the Strait of Hormuz is not opened, I will destroy all of Iran's power plants, oil wells, Kharg Island and desalination facilities."

He framed the move as retaliation for what he described as the deaths of many U.S. service members and others at the hands of Iran over "47 years of rule by terror."

At the same time, Trump said talks with Tehran had made "substantial progress" and that a deal remained likely.
