[The Public = Reporter Choi Eol] On the 21st, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon accused Democratic Party mayoral candidate Jeong Won-oh of remaining silent in the face of a "troublemaker" president and of effectively muzzling citizens who are worried about the repeal of the long-term holding special deduction (LTSD).
Oh wrote on Facebook that Jeong had called the LTSD repeal an "undiscussed matter" and accused Oh of provoking conflict. Oh said that claiming the issue hasn't been discussed is a lie that deceives citizens, noting that ruling-party lawmakers introduced a bill and the president has stated a clear position on social media. He asked rhetorically whether it makes sense to say the issue hasn't been discussed.
He added that the real provocateur stirring conflict and public unease is President Lee Jae-myung, who, without public debate, used social media to ignite calls to abolish the LTSD. By using SNS politics to roll out half-baked policies, new regulations, and what he called "tax bombs," the president is precisely the kind of conflict-stirrer Jeong described. With the Middle East war raising international tensions and citizens struggling to make ends meet, a president promising heavier taxation only deepens public anxiety, Oh said.
Oh criticized Jeong for staying silent before the "troublemaker" president while effectively clamping down on citizens who raise concerns about abolishing the LTSD.
He added that it is shameful to spend political energy watching the president's every move and fail to speak up for the interests of citizens.
