Shim Jae-guk (69) was confirmed as the People Power Party’s official candidate for Pyeongchang County mayor for the ninth term of locally elected government.
On April 14, the People Power Party’s Gangwon Provincial Party Committee nomination review panel announced it had selected the incumbent Shim as the party’s Pyeongchang County mayoral candidate in the ninth nationwide local elections.
Shim said he would “humbly heed the wishes of party members and residents and dedicate myself to Pyeongchang’s uninterrupted development.” He noted that with Pyeongchang categorized as high risk for regional decline, residents urgently want stability and continuity in county government to promote progress.
He added that the nomination reflects that public will and carries significant meaning, and he pledged to shoulder the heavy responsibility and do everything necessary to retain the seat.
