Lee Jung-hyun, chair of the People Power Party’s Nomination Management Committee, said on the 10th that party and committee rules permit additional registrations for the June 3 local elections and that the door remains wide open.
He told reporters that morning at the Yeouido central party headquarters, before beginning interviews of candidates for metropolitan-level offices.
“There are still regions that haven’t submitted applications, and the screening process can present various contingencies,” he said. “The committee will review all cases and make decisions accordingly.”
He added, “If a stronger candidate emerges, we can bring them on board through various means as needed. For now, the door for additional registrations is wide open.”
Observers interpreted Lee’s comments as directed at Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who did not register during the party’s official application period.
Earlier, Mayor Oh said he was grateful and relieved that the party’s general assembly adopted a resolution opposing “Yoon Again.” Oh, who had previously clashed with the party and embraced an anti‑Yoon stance, has spoken positively about the party-level resolution—an adjustment that has led some analysts to speculate he may still file a late registration.
