North Korea condemned the UN Human Rights Council’s adoption of a resolution on North Korea’s human rights, calling it “a grave political provocation that stigmatizes our nation’s dignity and sovereignty,” and rejecting it in the strongest terms.

In a statement released today (April 2) through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “A selective human-rights discussion mechanism targeted at individual countries is an act of hostility that runs counter to the spirit of the UN Charter, which affirms sovereign equality and non‑interference in internal affairs.”

The spokesperson added that the practice of adopting ‘human rights resolutions’ on North Korea for more than 20 years has left the UN human-rights system in a regrettable condition, deeply tainted by politicization, selectivity and double standards.
