President Lee Jae-myung met with visiting members of the U.S. House of Representatives to solicit their views on how the situation in the Middle East may unfold.
At a March 31 meeting at the Blue House with the U.S. House Korea Study Group delegation, President Lee said the war in the Middle East has imposed significant difficulties on South Korea. He and the delegation exchanged views on the conflict’s potential ripple effects, Blue House press secretary Kang Yu-jeong said.
President Lee said the government has preemptively activated an emergency economic response system and expects to pursue necessary U.S.-South Korea cooperation through close coordination with the U.S. administration and Congress.
He also said he expects to advance concrete cooperation in the core areas agreed upon by the two leaders last year, including the peaceful use of nuclear energy, nuclear-powered submarines, and shipbuilding.
