Lee Jeong-hyun, chair of the People Power Party’s nominations committee, signaled his willingness to run in a challenging district, saying he is prepared to “do my part in the toughest places the party needs” once the nomination process concludes.

He wrote on Facebook on March 29 that he intends to “take on a different role—not the easy path, but the hardest places where no one wants to go.”

He added that he would not hesitate if doing so would help unite the party.

Lee warned that politics that lean on or abandon certain regions can no longer win voters. He urged the party to “compete confidently by region, not retreat from difficult districts, and not give up just because it’s hard.”

“Someone must step forward, and I will take that role,” he said. “Politics can and must change. I, Lee Jeong-hyun, will stand at that starting point.”

Lee is a prominent conservative politician from Honam (Gokseong, South Jeolla Province) and previously served as the National Assembly member for Suncheon, South Jeolla, after winning elections to the 19th and 20th legislatures.

According to Yonhap News, he described the situation as “a desperate one for the survival of the party and the conservative camp,” saying he is calling for everyone’s dedication and that he is willing to go to “the toughest of the tough districts” himself.
