“We will compete with the Democratic Party to develop North Jeolla”
Cho Kuk, leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, toured the Honam region this week, urging voters for support and stressing competition with the Democratic Party.
On the 15th, he attended the opening of the campaign office for Jeongeup mayoral hopeful Kim Min-young in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, and told local residents, “Honam, North Jeolla, and Jeongeup gave birth to the Cho Kuk Innovation Party,” asking for their backing.
He compared the Democratic Party to the “eldest child” and his party to the “younger son or daughter,” saying, “We must compete even with the elder siblings to demonstrate our commitment and service.”
He challenged the idea that Jeongeup is safely a Democratic stronghold, asking, “People often call Jeongeup a Democratic Party bastion, but has that been enough? Competing over who can serve Jeongeup better—does that mean siding with Yoon Suk Yeol or the People Power Party?”
“We will compete openly with the Democratic Party for the development of Jeongeup and North Jeolla,” he said, adding, “I am confident the Cho Kuk Innovation Party can better serve the citizens of Jeongeup, the residents of North Jeolla, and the people of Honam as a whole.”
Cho said his goal in this local election is to win Jeongeup. “Why do you think I’ve visited Jeongeup three times? It’s to make Jeongeup the first place in North Jeolla to elect a Cho Kuk Innovation Party candidate in the June 3 local elections,” he said.
He also pledged, “Just as we produced Damyang County Mayor Jeong Cheol-won in South Jeolla, we will work to elect Kim Min-young as mayor of Jeongeup.”
Before the event, Cho visited Jangsu Market in Jangsu County and Saemgoul Market in Jeongeup to meet merchants and residents. He planned to continue his schedule in Iksan with a signing event for his book Cho Kuk’s Choice and a meeting with the civic group “People Who Manage Households.”
Meanwhile, political observers are speculating that Cho may run in the by-election for a National Assembly seat in Gunsan, North Jeolla, which will be held alongside this local election.
