Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said on the 18th (local time), “We are ready to make our enemies taste a new bitter defeat.”

International outlets including The Telegraph and Tasnim reported that Mojtaba delivered a congratulatory address via Telegram to mark the military’s founding anniversary. He praised the armed forces, saying, “The army of Islam now bravely defends its land, sea and nation, just as it did in two earlier ‘forced’ wars.”

Observers interpret the two “forced wars” as the Iran–Iraq War from 1980 to 1988 and last year’s so‑called 12‑day conflict with Israel.

Mojtaba emphasized, “Iranian drones strike the U.S. and the ‘Zionist criminals’ (Israel) like lightning, and our brave navy stands ready to deliver the enemies a new bitter defeat.”

He added that the Iranian military “stands shoulder to shoulder with other armed groups in confronting the two armies—the U.S. and Israel—exposing their weakness and humiliation to the world.”

He also noted that the day coincides with the birthday of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, praising him as a figure who, from the early years of the revolution, defended the military against efforts to disband it and later worked tirelessly to strengthen its capabilities across multiple fronts.

Mojtaba named Chief of Staff Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh—who were killed in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Feb. 28—as “martyrs,” saying their plans, actions and noble spirit will serve as lessons and inspiration for the entire military.

Mojtaba, Khamenei’s second son, assumed the post of supreme leader on the 8th of last month after Khamenei’s death in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, but he has not appeared at official events or delivered public speeches since then.
