At a full session that day, the committee considered and approved 44 bills that had passed the bill-review subcommittee. Among them was an amendment to the Local Education Autonomy Act that incorporates the Public Official Election Act’s prohibition on campaigning with deepfake videos.
The committee also approved an amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act requiring the timely production and distribution of textbooks for students with disabilities and establishing a legal basis for school complaint-response units; revisions to the Special Act for Promoting the Utilization of Closed-School Properties to streamline measures for repurposing closed schools; and an amendment to the Infant Care Act that renames the “Korea Childcare Promotion Institute” as the “Korea Early Childhood Care and Education Promotion Institute” while expanding its mandate.
The bills approved by the Education Committee will proceed to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee for technical and wording review before being submitted to the National Assembly plenary session.
Meanwhile, the Education Committee received briefings from 10 agencies, including the Ministry of Education, the National Education Commission, and the Academy of Korean Studies, and conducted questioning on current issues.
