
The People Power Party’s Daejeon chapter has named the incumbents as its sole nominees for the mayoral contests in Dong-gu and Daedeok-gu.
On the 27th, the party’s Daejeon candidate-selection committee announced first-round nominations for municipal executives and metropolitan assembly seats in the 9th nationwide local elections. It named incumbent Park Hee-jo and incumbent Choi Chung-gyu as the sole nominees for Dong-gu and Daedeok-gu mayor, respectively, and selected Jo Won-hwi, chair of the Daejeon City Council, as the sole nominee for Yuseong-gu mayor.
The Seo-gu mayoral primary will be a head-to-head contest between incumbent Seo Cheol-mo and Kim Hyun-ho, the former director of Seo-gu’s Autonomous Administration Bureau.
The Jung-gu mayoral primary will be a three-way race among former Daejeon City Council chair Kim Kyung-hoon, Daejeon City Councilor Kim Sun-gwang, and Lee Dong-han, the former president of the Daejeon Science and Industry Promotion Agency.
Campaigning in districts selected for primaries will run from the 28th through April 1, with voting scheduled over two days, April 2 and 3.
The municipal mayoral primaries will be decided 50% by delegate voting and 50% by a public opinion poll.
