Park Hu‑seong, superintendent of the Korea Military Academy, publicly apologized for the Dec. 3 emergency martial law, saying he deeply reflects on the matter and apologizes to the people.
On May 4, the Korea Military Academy said Park made the remarks in a speech at the academy’s 80th‑anniversary ceremony on the Hwarang Parade Ground on April 30. He said some alumni participated in illegal acts that threatened the constitutional order and caused the public deep pain and disappointment.
He said he had revised the curriculum so cadets could internalize the rule of law and the spirit of the constitution, and he vowed that the academy would base its education on the principle that the military must strictly maintain political neutrality.
He called for building a “people’s military” that commands firm public trust and support and a Korea Military Academy the public can be proud of.
