On the 10th, Nonsan City in South Chungcheong Province held a report meeting at city hall on securing national and provincial funding for 2027. Mayor Baek Seong-hyun presided over the session, which was attended by about 60 senior municipal officials.

Nonsan has set a target of KRW 526.4 billion (5,264 hundred million KRW; ≈ $394.8 million) for national and provincial funding next year—an increase of KRW 87.2 billion (872 hundred million KRW; ≈ $65.4 million) from this year’s main budget of KRW 439.2 billion (4,392 hundred million KRW; ≈ $329.4 million). At the meeting, officials closely reviewed strategies and response plans to secure government budget allocations for priority projects.

Discussion centered on core defense and defense-industry projects meant to strengthen the city’s military-supply and defense-manufacturing base, including △ the establishment of a Defense Future Technology Research Center (KRW 239.4 billion; 2,394 hundred million KRW; ≈ $179.6 million), △ the development of a national defense industrial complex (KRW 61.5 billion; 615 hundred million KRW; ≈ $46.1 million), and △ the Defense Industry Innovation University–Industry Cooperation Cluster project (KRW 49.9 billion; 499 hundred million KRW; ≈ $37.4 million).

Officials also prioritized disaster-prevention initiatives designed to reduce flooding and minimize casualties and property damage from natural disasters, such as △ the Jangseong district flood-control and comprehensive living-area maintenance project (KRW 41.1 billion; 411 hundred million KRW; ≈ $30.8 million) and △ the Gamjeol–Sinam–Sandong district disaster-risk improvement project (KRW 87.4 billion; 874 hundred million KRW; ≈ $65.6 million).

They additionally reviewed budget strategies to secure funding for new local projects aimed at improving daily life and infrastructure, including △ an ICT convergence and livestock-odor reduction project in the livestock sector (KRW 14.5 billion; 145 hundred million KRW; ≈ $10.9 million), △ a small-scale drainage improvement project in the Deukyun 2 district (KRW 4.1 billion; 41 hundred million KRW; ≈ $3.1 million), and △ the widening and paving of Provincial Road 11 (Noti–Hwagok) (KRW 4.0 billion; 40 hundred million KRW; ≈ $3.0 million).

“Administration must now operate from a management-focused perspective to increase regional value and create a city where people want to live,” Mayor Baek Seong-hyun said. “Because the entire process—from budget formulation and review to approval and execution—is critical, officials should strengthen their financial-management capabilities based on strategic judgment and work closely with the national and provincial governments to ensure funding is secured without setbacks.”
