The Democratic Party has narrowed its field to three candidates for the June 3 Seoul mayoral primary.
Hong Gi-won, deputy chair of the party’s Central Election Committee, announced on March 24 that Park Ju-min, Jung Won-o, and Jeon Hyun-hee have been selected to advance to the main primary.
Kim Hyung-nam and Kim Young-bae did not advance, and the party, citing its rules, did not disclose individual candidate rankings or vote shares.
The main primary is scheduled for April 7–9. The winner will be determined by a 50/50 split between party-member votes and nationwide public-opinion polling.
If no candidate secures a majority, the party will hold a runoff between the top two candidates on April 17–19.
The party also said all applicants for the Sejong Special Self-Governing City mayoral race have been approved as primary candidates. Ko Jun-il, Kim Su-hyun, Lee Chun-hee, Cho Sang-ho, and Hong Sun-sik will therefore proceed directly to the main primary without a preliminary round.
Yonhap News also released screening results for 11 local executive posts in North Chungcheong Province.
Kim Kwang-jik, a former auditor at the Korea Gas Safety Corporation who was the sole applicant for Danyang county chief, was confirmed as the candidate. The party said it will hold primaries for the remaining 10 contests.
